The NBA Didn’t Want TNT

The NBA signed a new media rights deal with Amazon which means that TNT, the longtime home of the NBA, has been left out in the cold. Dan Beyer & Monse Bolaños, in for Doug Gottlieb, speculate on the reasons why the NBA refused to consider TNT’s matching bid. Dan proposes an interesting theory that has the ring of truth to it; “Inside the NBA” with Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal & Charles Barkley was simply too good and it was taking attention away from their other broadcast partners.

Dan Beyer: “I didn’t think that Adam Silver and the NBA really ever wanted TNT to come back because of how great (Inside the NBA) was and actually how it made all the other products put on the NBA platforms look inferior.”

Monse Bolaños: “You can drop your mic now.”
