The Adam Vinatieri era will almost certainly continue for the final four weeks of the season, but just in case a) he isn't healthy or b) he continues to be woefully ineffective, the Colts now have a backup option: Chase McLaughlin.
The former 49ers kicker was claimed off of waivers by Indianapolis this afternoon.
McLaughlin, who played collegiately at Illinois, has bounced around to four different teams during his rookie year, being on the regular season roster of both the Chargers and 49ers. He has made 13 of his 17 field goal attempts this season.
Vinatieri was limited on today's practice report due to a knee issue, so this transaction could also be a health precaution.
