When Tom Allen was abruptly elevated to head coach following the dismissal of Kevin Wilson, there was a lot of skepticism over whether he was ready to be a Big Ten head coach. In fact, much of it came from his home state, where his only head coaching experience was at Ben Davis. Just getting bowl-eligible in Year 3 doesn't mean that Allen is necessarily the second coming of Bill Mallory, but he's certainly done enough so far to prove that he's not in over his head.
