Chad Kelly is suspended and Phillip Walker is on the practice squad, so the Colts will have to sign a backup quarterback prior to next Sunday's season opening tilt in Los Angeles.
Indianapolis already brought in veterans Matt Cassel, Brock Osweiler, and Brandon Weeden late last week, but you can add Brian Hoyer to that list. The former Michigan State signal-caller is reportedly in town tonight:
Hoyer is likely the best of those veteran options. Weeden has only appeared in two games in the last three seasons combined, Cassel struggled in limited action in Detroit as Matthew Stafford's #2, and Brock Osweiler is... Brock Osweiler. Hoyer has made 37 career starts for five different teams (Arizona, Cleveland, Houston, Chicago, San Francisco) while spending time as a backup to Tom Brady during two different stints in New England behind Tom Brady.
This situation is likely going to be resolved in the next 24 hours or so. The Colts practice for the first time this regular season on Wednesday and will have to get the QB2 up to speed quickly.
