Luck Shut Down for Weekend, Colts Still Optimistic

The Colts say Andrew Luck was never going to play in last night's preseason opener, regardless of his health, but their franchise quarterback will remain shut down through the weekend.

Head coach Frank Reich said that Luck won't practice Saturday, Sunday, or Monday as he continues to rest a strained calf.

Did he suffer a setback when participating in Camp? We don't know that, but it's obvious that this once "minor" calf issue is now a serious concern almost four months later.

The Colts have three other quarterbacks on the roster, including incumbent backup Jacoby Brissett, and may have to keep either Phillip Walker or Chad Kelly on the 53-man roster as an insurance policy. That said, the team doesn't believe that Luck's Week 1 is in jeopardy... at least not yet.
