It’s estimated that 500 million people around the world watched the moon landing on July 20, 1969.
While it was a historic day nationally, a sense of pride was especially felt in Indiana, given Neil Armstrong’s connection to Purdue University.
In all, Purdue has produced 25 astronauts on U.S. spaceflights, including Armstrong (the first on the moon) and Gene Cernan (the last).
