Goodell Wants to Shorten the Preseason

We may finally be heading for the end of the mostly pointless and annoying fourth preseason game on the NFL calendar.

If commissioner Roger Goodell has his way, the league will go to a shorter preseason schedule:

Even though Goodell didn't say it, there have been rumors that he and the owners want an 18-game regular season schedule. So, you can understand why they'd be motivated to shave off some of the preseason.

Regardless, the fourth and final preseason game is usually lightly attended and it mostly involves players who end up on the chopping block when rosters are trimmed to 53.
