The Lakers are still searching for their next head coach and two of the three they're reportedly focusing on have strong Indiana ties, including one former Pacers' head coach:
Vogel, who is still just 45 years old, sat out of coaching this year after not being given much of a chance during a two-year stint in Orlando. He's the Pacers' all-time NBA wins leader with 250 victories and led the franchise to the postseason in five of his six seasons, including back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2013 and 2014.
Woodson is an Indianapolis native and former IU star who has been in NBA coaching for a quarter-century. He has nine years of head coaching experience, which includes a solid stretch in Atlanta (2004-10) and the best Knicks' season of the 21st century (54 wins in 2012-13 season).
Personally, I'm rooting for Vogel. The Pacers let him walk without much of a reason (Bird wanted to play at faster pace so he replaced him with... Nate McMillan?) and his late tenure struggles (2014-16) were due far more to mediocre personnel than mediocre coaching. Putting him with LeBron and an underachieving Lakers team should be the recipe for a quick turnaround.
