Purdue's poor non-conference showing knocked them out of the Top 25 in December, but six weeks later, the Boilermakers are back with a vengeance.
In fact, they went from unranked in both polls all the way into the Top 20:
The weird thing is that the ranks in the Coaches (19th) and AP (17th) poll don't seem to accurately rate where Purdue is at this point in the season. Forget the fact that they've won eight of nine - every other season metric has the Boilers hovering in the top ten nationally...
Purdue's 7-1 January includes a sparkling 4-1 record against Quad 1 teams and all of their wins have been either Q1 or Q2 (Indiana is a Quad 2 victory) except for their 35-point beatdown of Rutger. They've also climbed within a game in the loss column of both Michigan State and Michigan with a much more forgiving second-half conference schedule.
It's quite a turnaround for a team that lost every meaningful game it played in November and December.
