Five years ago today, many thought the Colts were literally building a monster.
The Browns gave up on Trent Richardson, the guy taken two picks after Andrew Luck in the 2012 NFL Draft, just over a year into his career, agreeing to send him to Indianapolis for a first-round pick. Richardson couldn't even hold the starting job as a Colt, getting passed by the disappointing Donald Brown, and racking up only 977 rushing yards in 29 games (3.1 yards per carry) before being cut shortly after the 2014 season.
However, before that trade went down, Jim Irsay was already sounding the trumpets. Here are some of his memorable proclamations from Trent Richardson Trade Day:
Amazing.
Thankfully, Irsay and the Colts have stopped worrying about making a big splash and instead focused on building this team patiently.
