Catching Up With: Dale Samuels

Everyone knows about Purdue's heralded Cradle of Quarterbacks, but just how far back does that tradition go?

Bob Griese? Nope.

Mike Phipps? Try again.

Len Dawson? Closer, but still no.

In fact, the oldest living member of the elite signal-calling fraternity first stepped onto campus in West Lafayette in 1949: Dale Samuels.

There are folks on eBay who still have original prints, like this one, of Samuels at Purdue

Samuels, who is technically the second member of the Cradle of Quarterbacks - the late Bob DeMoss, Samuels' quarterback coach, was the first (1945-48) - joined us on today's show in our latest edition of "Catching Up With". A 2018 inductee into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame, Samuels talked with us about how he ended up at Purdue, the Boilers' epic upset of #1 Notre Dame which ended the Irish's 39-game winning streak in 1950, and how he still remains a Boilermaker superfan today.
