Thad Young is the biggest in-house question mark for the Pacers this offseason.
The veteran forward has a player option worth $13.7 million to return to the Pacers next season, but approaching his 30th birthday in a few weeks, may be looking for a longer-term deal this summer instead:
As Woj points out, Young’s rationale makes sense. He’s in the prime of his career, has been a rock solid veteran, and can defend multiple positions. Why wouldn’t he want to parlay that into a contract that would carry him into his 30s?
Indiana is in a tough spot. They want Young back as both a veteran presence on a young team and to solidify a frontcourt that lacks physicality. At the same time, Myles Turner is due the rookie extension next summer and Domantas Sabonis’s role will continue to expand in his third year, so a long-term deal (beyond two years) likely isn't in their best interest.
