In San Antonio last week, people were saying this was the "perfect" Final Four: A charming Cinderella story in Loyola, red-hot Michigan, a blueblood in Kansas, and Villanova, by far the most impressive team to that point. Unfortunately, perhaps Villanova was a little too perfect.
This Tournament will always be remembered for the first-ever 16 over 1 upset, and the chaos that reigned in the South Region - you had an 11/9 matchup in the Elite 8 and none of the top four seeds reached the second weekend for the first time in history. However, as I stated above, Villanova's dominant performance in Texas crushed all the drama of the Final Four and made last night's game feel more like a coronation than a contest. Similar to 2006, that didn't ruin the Tournament, but it did take a lot of the air out of the balloon.
