Now that the Pacers feel they have a core to build upon, can they land a star free agent to push them over the top?
Reggie Miller thinks so:
Money works for B-level free agents, like what Paul Millsap got in Denver last summer. However, money alone has never been enough for the Pacers, or any other non-destination team (usually small market), lure A-level stars. But, as we've seen recently, having a championship shot absolutely helps. Places like Oklahoma City and Cleveland were never free agent hotspots until they became winners.
So, while I agree with Reggie that you can't completely shut the door on the Pacers in feee agency, contending - not money - is their real path to landing some big fish.
