In the wake of Josh McDaniels' last-second decision, the Colts are re-racking their head coaching search. First up? Dan Campbell.
Campbell, 41, is the current associate head coach/tight ends coach for the Saints, but is perhaps better known for his short stint as the Dolphins' interim head coach during the 2015 season. Miami went 5-7 in those games, which included a home loss to the Colts in Week 16.
As Mike Wells pointed out in today's ESPN.com article, Campbell is a bit like Chuck Pagano in the sense that he's viewed somewhat as a "players coach". Campbell himself had an 11-year playing career, so you can understand why he can see it from two different perspectives.
His age, and the fact that he's been an offensive coach, checks off two boxes of Chris Ballard's original criteria for the candidates he'd like to pursue.
