Should "Schotty" Get a Look?

It seems that the days of the Chuck Pagano Era are dwindling in Indianapolis, and with some fans already looking towards 2018, names of possible replacements have been kicked around. Pie-in-the-sky picks like Jon Gruden and Jim Harbaugh have been popular, as has Chiefs Special Teams wiz Dave Toub. But, could current quarterback coach Brian Schottenheimer get a look?

The coaching veteran has earned praise for helping Andrew Luck to perhaps his best statistical season (with a torn labrum, mind you) in 2016, and for getting Jacoby Brissett caught up after the team traded for him right before this season began:

Schottenheimer has the pedigree, being the son of longtime NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer, but has no actual head coaching experience. He's spent eighteen years as an assistant, including nine years running the offense for the Jets (2006-2013) and Rams (2012-14).

Most believe Jim Irsay wants to make a "big splash" hire, and Schottenheimer isn't that, so it seems like a long-shot that he'll get a serious look. However, maybe he could stay on either in his current role or as the OC for whoever the new head coach ends up being.
