Jim Mora may have never gotten the credit that he deserved.
A championship coach in the USFL, and a guy who helped resurrect moribund Saints and Colts franchises (albeit temporarily), Mora instead might be best remembered for his epic "Playoffs?" rant. That happened late in the 2001 season, his final year with the Colts and as an NFL head coach.
Peyton Manning's first professional head coach kicked off the third year of our annual "Catching Up With Series" earlier today, and as always, was highly entertaining. A few of the highlights include:
- Though he says he thoroughly enjoyed his time in Indianapolis, Mora says he hasn't stepped foot in our city since being let go following the 2001 season:
- He wouldn't speak on-the-air about his icy relationship with former team president Bill Polian, but it seems that fracture caused him to decline Peyton Manning's invite to his statue unveiling this fall:
- Mora also spoke about his memorable "Playoffs?" rant and how his overly-emotional nature caused him some embarrassment in press conferences.
